Rules
Competition rules and safety requirements
All BotBrawl events follow a standardized set of rules covering robot construction, safety requirements, match procedures, and competitor conduct. These rules are designed to keep events safe, fair, and fun for everyone involved.
Quick Overview
Weight Classes
Robots compete against others in their weight class. BotBrawl supports multiple classes from antweights (150g) up through heavyweights. Each event selects which classes to run. Check the events page for what's offered at upcoming competitions.
Safety
Every robot must pass a safety inspection before competing. This includes a master power switch, a visible power indicator, and weapon locking mechanisms where applicable. Specific requirements vary by weight class — the full checklist is in the rulebook.
Match Format
Matches are won by knockout (the opponent can no longer move), judge decision (scored on aggression, control, and damage), or forfeit. Events may use round-robin, single-elimination, or double-elimination brackets depending on the number of entries.
Conduct
Competitors are expected to be respectful to organizers, judges, other builders, and spectators. Unsafe behavior, unsportsmanlike conduct, or failure to follow event staff instructions may result in warnings, suspensions, or bans from future events.
